Little Dandelion, Let Your Heart Keep Time

by Audioslave – Dandelion

“Born of restless night the moon as a pearl.”

This photograph was a combination of pure skill, some luck, and perhaps fate… it caught my attention when I first saw it in my camera roll. Why? Just as I was about to photograph it, I noticed a car with some signage that I managed to capture in the background as it drove by.

Botanically the “seed” is actually a fruit with a single seed inside called a cypsela, sometimes incorrectly considered an achene. The white “parachute” attached to the cypsela is called a pappus, a modified sepal found in most types of flowers (the dandelion “flower” is actually a collection of many tiny florets, each with its own petals and sepals).

The seeds are also known as “clocks.”
